Graduation Mojo Sneak Peak!

It's Mojo time and time to celebrate those grads in your life. Graduation is a time of transition and realization of accomplishment. A strong card will tell your grad how proud you are of this accomplishment. This week's Mojo Monday sketch is perfect for doing just that.

When I started putting this card together, I knew I wanted to use this sentiment from the Word Play set, a graduation cap and a rich blue. Normally, I would pair silver with blue, but the new Midnight Muse seems to do better with Brushed Gold, a paper that has a muted metallic feel. Perfect!

I also wanted to carry the movement of the arrow throughout the design. One solution, a sheet of herringbone paper from the new Comfort Cafe Designer Series Paper (available June 1st). The interesting combination of geometric and floral designs in this paper pack is fantastic. One paper pack can be used for sweet and strong, male and female.

Finally, I finished off the pomp and circumstance with gold brads to bring out the muted gold and added a cute little "Bakers Twine" tassel.

Salute to Poppy Parade

Poppy Parade, one of the retiring In-Colors has become one of my favorites. I didn't appreciate this vibrant color until I opened a pack of "Everyday Enchantment" Designer Series Paper from this year's Sale-A-Bration. I'm really sad to see this beauty go.

If this card looks familiar, it is. You'll find it featured on page 18 of the 2012 Occasions Mini catalog in blue. It's interesting to see how a simple change in color changes the entire feel of the card.
One of the things I like about this design is the subtle sentiment achieved by using tone on tone. It's light enough to make the reader pull it close, and dark enough to make them realize there's something more. A little tease to have them really look at the card to appreciate the texture and layering you've done.

Most things on this card are retired or retiring but I hope you'll be inspired to see what you can do with a favorite design and different color choices.
Tips & Tricks: Experiment with color and texture using a card you've created in the past as your template.

Happy Mother’s Day In Color!
A few weeks ago, after the threat snow was off Peavine Mountain (a local point of interest and topic of local spring planting folklore), I set out some new colorful annuals for my 2012 garden. Imagine my surprise when I went out this Mother's Day and found these beautiful new additions to my flower beds! I've never seen such a vibrant display of juicy colors.
All kidding aside, Happy Mother's Day! It's a beautiful sunny day here in Northern Nevada. Perfect for getting outside to dig in the dirt. Flirting with Doilies on Mojo Monday #240

It's Mojo Monday again!
If it seems like I just posted a card for the last sketch, you're right! I just started playing along with the Mojo Monday players about 2 weeks ago and jumped in toward the end of the cycle. I'm caught up and hope to play along toward the beginning of the challenges. It's a great way to hone your skills while using up some of your extra supplies.
Have you ever purchased paper or supplies thinking it was the cutest thing you've ever seen only to get home and struggle with it? Well, that was the case with our Flirtatious Specialty paper last year. I just knew I would love the die-cut doily sheets and feminine prints. What I forgot was, I rarely use pink or yellow. What was I thinking? So, the challenge to myself this last month of the 2011-2012 Idea Book is to reduce retiring supplies. Another reason I joined challenges.
When I saw this challenge, I immediately thought of the beautiful die-cut doilies that are part of the Flirtatious Specialty paper and it's so feminine that it was easy to see who I'd make this for. Shhh…. don't tell Mom.

Tips & Tricks: To cut your design time to a minimal, embellish your cards with designs from your patterned paper. You'll also be sure to have a well coordinated piece when you're done.
Nuts & Bolts:
Project Dimensions: 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" (A2 envelope)
Supplies:

Adhesives:

Today I'm sharing with you one of my favorite things, family. Specifically my husband and one of our newest members. This was taken at a birthday party recently and I just love it. What's not to cherish? At standard A2 card size (4.25 x 5.5) it's perfect to have at my desk. With Mother's & Father's Day coming up along with graduations, this would make a perfect gift.
Tips & Tricks: My coloring trick? Blender Pens. You can control the intensity of the color and place it right where you need it by using Blender Pens and my Classic Ink Pads. For these flowers, sponge the flower centers and petals first with sponge daubers. Then apply the shading and detail with blender pens. For the leaves, apply the ink directly on the stamp with sponge daubers to give them a softer look. Then add detail using blender pens. Finally, cut around some of the petals so you can curl them to give them dimension. The result is a quick piece of art that will wow the on-looker.

Now that you've learned some quick tricks, time to try it on your own. But hurry, these flowers and sentiment stamp are only available until May 31st. Then, they're off to rubber stamp retirement!
