Happy Batty Halloween PPA223

Happy Batty Halloween by Rae Harper at WildWestPaperArts.comWelcome to Thursday and a Happy Batty Halloween card for Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge PPA223.  The perfect trio of colors (Basic Black, Tangelo Twist & Very Vanilla) for the season.  It’s no wonder pumpkins and bats landed on the card.

It all came together with help of stamps and stickers from September’s Paper Pumpkin Kit and a scrap frame I’d been holding on to for the right project.  Meet Mr. Right.

I don’t remember what I was working on when this fun frame was created.  However, it’s created by using two dies. First, use the Clear Oval Accent Bigz Die (#127005) to cut an image out of Basic Black card stock.  Next, bring out the Apothecary Accents Framelits (#127003) to cut the inside frame.  Don’t have the Apothecary Framelits yet?  Do I have a deal for you!

Apothecary Accent is party of Stampin’ Up!s Weekly Deals from October 7, 2014 through October 13, 2014. At 25%, now’s the time to get it.

The pumpkins are super easy to make.  For simple instructions, click here to see “how to grow a pumpkin,” of my previous posts from last year.

Happy Halloween is stamped in Basic Black using the Happy Halloween stamp from September’s Paper Pumpkin Kit.  The words were then cut apart and lightly torn and distressed.  The word placement makes me think of a “keep out” sign.  How about you?

When you break through the Keep Out sign, to get inside, something screams, “Boo!”. Bats fly, cobwebs are everywhere.  Are you scared yet?  Ready for a Happy Batty Halloween?

Free Good Greeting Stamp Set from Stampin' Up!

Pals Blog Hop October 2014

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop October 2014. We’re celebrating the Halloween and harvest season, this month, sharing  projects using wonderful Stampin’ Up! supplies and tools.

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Angie Valle-Peters at Paperluxuries, #31 on the Pals Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

I decided to share two quick and easy cards today.  You won’t find the stamps in the Stampin’ Up! store or catalog. These stamps were included in the September 2014 Paper Pumpkin Kit. Are you a subscriber?

The first card, “Here’s Lookin’ at You”, uses the Motley Monsters Designer Series Paper (#135819), Bright Candy Dots (#130931) and White Stampin’ Emboss Powder (#109132)  You probably notice the dreaded white specs from stray embossing powder.  Normally I would have started over.  However, this time, the effect was perfect.

Wild West Paper Arts Spooky Eyes

The eyes have it and are simple to create.  Just punch partial ovals and circles with the Small Oval Punch (#120908) and the 3/4″ Circle Punch (#119873). Top them off with little black pupils.  Try using different colors for the eyes.  You could come up with some super ghoulish results.

A maple leaf from Autumn Accents Bigz Die (#127812) for the Big Shot (#113439) creates a non-traditional ghost. Isn’t he cute, all decked out for fall?  His facial features are drawn on with one of the Project Life Journaling Pens (#135304).  I love these pens!

Wild West Paper Arts Stylin' Ghost

The chalkboard technique creates the fog behind the little ghost.  Look close, you’ll see a shadow created with Dazzlin’ Diamonds Glimmer Paper (#135315).

Stylin' Ghost Close Up by Wild West Paper ArtsNow it’s time to hop through again and give your favorite projects a second look.

The next stop is Candy Ford at Stamp Candy, #1 on the Pals Blog Hop. Thank you so much for joining us. Hope to see you next month (November 12, 2014) for “So Thankful” themed projects.

Wonderful Quick Wreath Tag

Wild West Paper Arts Wonderful Quick Wreath Tag - 1What did you do on World Card Making Day?  Did you got a head start on holiday greetings?  The Wild West Tack Room was bustling with preparations for our 2nd Annual Build-A-Tag Party. The Wonderful Quick Wreath Tag is one of the samples created this weekend.

Our Build-A-Tag Party is an annual event to help everyone get some of their holiday tags and doo-dads done before the hectic season is in full swing.  It’s a marathon of sorts.  We save scraps, embellishments, old greeting cards, ribbon, and the like during the year and serve them up to you buffet style.  You make as many tags as possible in four hours, a real win-win.  Feel a sense of accomplishment and while we clear out the old to get ready for the new.

The Wonderful Quick Wreath Tag started with a card donated for the event.  The original card had the words “Season’s Greetings” embossed in gold across the bottom. As my good friend Janell would say,  I “cannibalized” the card by cutting it apart making as many elements as possible for guests to use.

Do you see what I see? Doesn’t the image look like it could be die-cut with the Wonderful Wreath Framelit?

Well, would you look at that.  Perfect!

Wild West Wonderful Quick Wreath Tag Step 3

Not too shabby, eh?  The Die-Cut “Joy”, also a part of the Wonderful Wreath Framelits set, adds the finishing touch.

If you don’t already have this set of Wonderful Wreath Framelits (#135851), purchase the Wonderous Wreath Bundle (#137624) and save 15%.  You’ll definitely want the coordinating stamp set.  Do a quick check on Pinterest to find some fantastic projects made from this bundle.

It’s so much fun to use scraps and tools to re-purpose something instead of throwing it away.  Saves time too!

What will you do with your scraps, build a Wonderful Quick Wreath Tag?

This project, as well as many other ideas will be on display for inspiration at the Build-A-Tag Party on November 1, 2014. Join us for four hours of fun! Click here for more information.  You’ll have a great time!

Original Top Note Scarecrow Revisted

Original Top Note Scarecrow

While cruising through Pinterest recently, I was honored to see that my original top note scarecrow has been revisited and CASEd over and over since September 2012.  What a surprise that he’s still going strong, just like the Top Note Bigz Die (#113463).

While reminiscing I noticed that four out of five of these characters were made in the fall of 2012.  The sheriff was made in the fall of 2013.  Guess I’d better get with the program.

I’ve been asked lately for instructions for making the scarecrow.  Here’s the scoop.  The scarecrow tutorial is included as a bonus for those that donate to my “Stamp Out Alzheimer’s” campaign.  This year taking part in the walk wasn’t possible.  However, we have until October 31st to donate to the event.  If you missed out on what you need to do, please visit my original post by clicking here.  All the links for donating to my Alzheimer’s fundraising campaign as well as instructions on how to get the tutorials start on that post.

Thank you for joining me on this trip down memory lane with the original top note scarecrow and friends.

What will the next Top Not Character be?  Any ideas?

Thank you so much for helping me and

Grateful for You

Wild West Paper Arts Grateful for You PPA222

Grateful for You Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge PPA222 at Wild West Paper ArtsHappy Junior Friday!  You know what that means…. Challenge!  Today’s challenge is Color Challenge PPA222 from Pals Paper Arts Design Team 1.  Perfect combo for your fall gratitude cards.  Which brings me to another point.  This is post number 500!  I’m so grateful for you my loyal followers.

Wild West Paper Arts has had some stalls and restarts, ups and downs and inside outs the last couple of years and you’re still here.  Thank you!

Now, back to the challenge at hand.  This card was super fun to make.  It’s one of those projects that keeps growing.  Know what I mean?

Looking at the color palette, Early Espresso was the choice for a foundation to make Calypso Coral and So Saffron POP off the page. For a little texture the base was embossed with the new Filigree Frame Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (#135818)

Next, a stamp that shows gratitude to celebrate the 500th blog post for Wild West Paper Arts.  Hmm, Merry Everything (#135071 clear, #135068 wood) will do just fine.  Especially when paired with the Note Tag Punch (#135860). I saved 15% on the bundle!  Wahoo!  You’ll find it on page 13 of the 2014 Holiday Catalog from Stampin’ Up! The “Grateful for You” image was heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder (#109129) then punched out.

The tag needed a bit of help from the other two colors and Fun Fall Framelits (#135856) to stand out.  Of course, this was also purchased in the bundle for the 15% savings. Click here to see another project created with the Fall Fest Stamp Set/Fun Fall Framelits Bundle (#137628).

Fall Fest & Fun Fall Framelits Bundle #137628

Dimension was added to the leaves by embossing them with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (#127821), then sponged with Calypso Coral and So Saffron Classic Ink.  FYI Classic Ink Pads are on sale through October 6th.  Click here to check out yesterday’s post for more information.

Last, a double bow made of Linen Thread (#104199) was added to the top and little dots of Gold Dazzling Details (#133755) were placed within the filigree edges.

There you have it.
