Lovely Lotus Blossom

Lovely Lotus Blossom at WildWestPaperArts.com

Have you used your lovely Lotus Blossom stamp set yet? No?  I hadn’t either until Valentine’s Day.  You see, I have a deep-seated fear of 2-step Stamping and this set has 3 steps!  I started to shake! It goes back to being a newbie with wood mounted stamps and a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig days.  What a mess I made until a friend (and master Stamp-A-Ma-Jigger) showed me the ropes.  Thanks Karen!

A few friends came over on Valentine’s Day to make occasion cards so this was the perfect time to share this beautiful set.  By the time we were done everyone fell in love.

I’ve seen a few different techniques using two colors of Classic Ink to achieve great dimension.  However, for this card use only one color, Calypso Coral.  Using one color give you a softer dimensional look.  Now that’s wild!

Super easy…. After mounting the three lovely Lotus Blossom stamps (“tab” pointed in the same direction for each stamp), follow the next three steps.

  1. Ink up Stamp #1, stamp it full strength.
  2. Ink up Stamp #2, stamp off once. Stamp it over Stamp #1 image.
  3. Ink up Stamp #3, stamp off twice. Stamp it over the previous two images.

That’s it!  One more tip. Don’t forget to use your Stampin’ Pierce Mat with your crystal clear photopolymer stamps for a perfect image every time.

Watch this video from Stampin’ Up! for more specific instructions on lining up these stamps and using the two-color technique.  Then, come back here for a close-up of the detail.

Now, wasn’t that easy?

The basic idea for this card was CASEd from Patsy Waggoner.  A delicate Tea Lace Doily some Essential Paper-Piercing and popped-up layers were added to step it up a bit.  The bow was replaced with Candy Dots to change it just a bit more.

Don’t forget the envelope!

Can you guess which products used on this card are FREE with a qualifying Sale-A-Bration order?  Hint… there are three.

Happy Triskadekaphobia Day!

Happy Triskadekaphobia Day! Mark Twain - Famous Triskadekaphobiac

Mark Twain – Famous Triskadekaphobiac

Happy Triskadekaphobia Day! Are you afraid of the number 13?  If so, you’re in good company.  I’m not one of those people.  In fact, I search out the number thirteen. Am I twisted?  Actually if your fear is more specific you could be a paraskevidekatriaphobiac – the fear of Friday the Thirteenth.  Now that’s a mouthful!

Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain suffered from the fear of thirteen.  Wonder why?  Let’s check it out.

Scholars seem to think the fear arose from the Last Supper where thirteen people were present and Christ was crucified the next day, Friday.  Sounds reasonable.  Some think it has to do with the number twelve being a complete number in many cultures.  Another idea comes from what we call today, the Mayan Calendar. Yet another from a Norse Myth and one associated with the Knights Templar. Who knows.

According to some, there is no written evidence of a Friday the 13th superstition.  One thing’s for sure, it became more widespread in the 20th century.

On the positive side, many cultures consider the number thirteen lucky.  Yay… I’m in good company too!  Where’s the black cat?  I even had my hair appointment today.  See, I’m not afraid!

Happy Triskadekaphobia Day!

Now THAT’S Wild!

PPA239 Color Challenge with the Pals

PPA239 Color Challenge with the Pals at WildWestPaperArts.com

Surprise!  It’s PPA239 Color Challenge with the Pals!  Inspiration for this sweet and simple card comes from Ruth B., a dear friend of mine. She created a red and white version using the Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder that was striking.

You may be asking, “Rae, why did you cover up part of your card?”  First, you can always flip back to Pals Paper Arts to see the original.

Since Valentine’s Day is upon us I decided to create an alternate version. By replacing Happy Valentine’s Day from That’s the Ticket with a cute little tag, part of From the Garden Bundle it’s more than a
Valentine!  Best part, the bundle is on sale this week.  Wahoo!

I have to confess, From the Garden Bundle wasn’t even on my radar.  But, it kept begging me to give it a chance.  Kind of like a dress on the rack you pass up but something (maybe your best friend) tells you to try it on. Then, it becomes your favorite!

The change is subtle and makes a big difference.

PPA239 Color Challenge with the Pals at WildWestPaperArts.com

So glad I tried this one on! It’s only been part of my tool family for a little while and I’ve used it several times.

Here’s a closer look of that cute little tag.
