The weather was fantastic yesterday and the walk was a huge success! This is the button we made to identify our team. I didn't have purple ribbon from Stampin'Up! Luckily, I had some scraps in my "Tack Room" to work with. I used a bit of Elegant Eggplant card stock, MDS2 for the badge and punches. Oh, and some retired Hat Pins from last year.
This is part of team Stamp Out Alzheimer's 2012. The walk date was changed toward the end so a few of our teammates weren't able to walk due to other plans. They supported the team and were with us in spirit.
A tradition at the walk is the planting of lawn flowers in the "Promise Garden." We wrote messages on the petals and handed them in at the start of the walk. Alzheimer's Staff and Volunteers then "planted" them all over the side of a hill (the Promise Garden). After the walk we were invited to find them and take them home. It was a beautiful sight.
The flowers come in four colors representing four types of walkers.
- Blue if you have Alzheimer's disease
- Orange if you are walking to support the cause
- Purple if you've lost someone to Alzheimer's disease
- Yellow if you're a caregiver or supporting friend of someone with Alzheimer's disease
The picture above shows Kristen Remington, a local News Anchor with her children, in the "Promise Garden." Kristen was our emcee for the event and held a purple flower in memory of a family member. Thank you Kristen.
The two lawn flowers above are mine. The purple flower is in honor of both my Father-in-law and Mother-in-law. The yellow flower represents me as a caregiver to my DH. Thank you everyone for your support and letting me share this special day with all of you.
Thank you for stopping by!
