Ahoy Matey!
Ahoy ye ol’ sea dog! Arrrr. Shiver me timbers, did you know today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day? Yep, every September 19th since 1995, pirate lovers of all ages, have had fun with this day. I know, there’s a special day for everything under the sun but this one has really caught on. From pub crawls to You Tube Sing-a-Longs, there’s something going on almost everywhere.
When it comes to punch art, I always look for an example that I can CASE. However, this time I was on my own. The only punch art pirates I could find were little owls made with Stampin’ Up!’s Owl builder punch and I wanted a Top Note Pirate! From the scarf to his scraggly grin, I had a blast putting him together.
His face, mustache and ends of his scarf are all made with the Top Note die. His mouth was created with the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch and I used the Owl Builder Punch to create his nose.

Last but not least, no respectful Pirate is complete without a little bling!
It’s your turn now Matie. Let’s see how seaworthy you are. Come on now, I’d hate to send you down the gang plank!

Now where’s me grog!
Cute ideas…thanks 4 sharing!
Our Krispy Kreme doughnuts shop has Pirate Day….talk like a pirate=one doughnut. Dress like a pirate=free dozen!!
Thanks Sandy! I love that idea. Are you going for one free doughnut or the whole dozen?

Am I dense or what, I still have no idea which punch you used for his scarf, my 2 1/2 in. punch isn’t large enough and I didn’t know stampinup had a 3in. I LOVE your site Barbara
Barbara, The “skull cap” part was a piece leftover from a Big Shot Die that I trimmed to a circle on the top – I’ll have to see if I can remember which one I used. Yikes! The ties are pieces cut using the Top Note. If I can find more information, I’ll send it here. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the creation that I forget to right it down not thinking that someone may need it. I’ve gotten much better since the Pirate. However, now I’m on a hunt to create a tutorial for it. 🙂
Hi Rae,
I saw your pirate on Mary Fish's website and had to come visit you! He is so darn cute!!! And I love, love, love the scarecrow. I never knew there was a "Talk Like a Pirate Day", I'll have to mark my calendar for next year! Too funny. I would love your permission to CASE both of these to use in a stamp camp some day. Also, I just started a blog. Would you be interested in being a "Featured Artist" sometime? Thanks so much.
Peace, Love & Joy,
Joyce

OM goodness, this is over the top adorable. My husband and one of my sons "celebrate" talk like a pirate day. This would have been perfect for them. It's being put on file for next year. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity!
Really cute pirate. I just love the Top Note Die, so many ways to use it.
I agree! Hands down the most used die in my collection.
AWESOME!! My son fences with a club called "Buccaneer Blades Fencing" The pirate is their theme and I just have to make this for his coach! He will absolutely LOVE IT!!! TFS!
Fantastic! Thank you.
This is so cute. The video is hysterical! Thanks for sharing.
Rae, I can't decide which one is cuter; the pirate or the scarecrow! They both are so darn cute! They would be awesome for birthdays, from the invitations, decorations, treat boxes, scrapbook pages etc. My mind is racing…Love them! You are amazing!
Thank you Beth. What a great compliment. I’m partial to the Scarecrow myself.
So clever, Rae!! This would be perfect for my nephew's upcoming birthday – he's all about the pirates lately. I just have a question about the 3 1/2 die – what did you use that for? I'm a dunce when it comes to figuring out what was used for what. Some things I can easily figure out – others not so much… How did you make the mustache and bandana tails (were they Top Note die edges?). Thanks so much!! Your creative genius has always amazed me!
Christy, I used it for the hat but a 4″ would work just as well. Yes, you got the mustach and bandana tails right. Thank you!
I love it and have to copy! It will be my grandson's all time favorite card!
Wow! This is the nicest pirate I've ever seen and by far the most beautiful "top note " die character. What about a template/tutorial??? Thanks for sharing! It's gorgeous!
He is too stinkin' cute!! I love it!
this is so adorable, love it
The only pirate I know cuter than this guy is Jack Sparrow 🙂
Rae, my grandchildren love pirates! This will definitely go in my file of cards to make for them. It's absolutely precious!!!
Rae…I love your pirate! Saw it on SC and added to my favs. Was unable to leave a comment there as the comment box was not showing up. So I came over here to your blog to tell you how much I like it and also to get the deets. Thanks for sharing.
Gladys,
Thank you! That’s kind of strange about the comment box on Splitcoast. I really appreciate you leaving a comment here.

Argh, shiver me timbers – this is because I am still giggling over your pirate! WELL DONE! I still am giggling over the owl's vest part as the nose! How clever you are! I love punch art. Who would have guessed!
This is SO fun! what a terrific design using the punches – thanks for all the 'how to' info!
You’re welcome Julia. Glad you like it and THANK YOU for the comment!
