Sail Away with PPA304
Let’s sail away with PPA304, this week’s challenge from Pals Paper Arts.
Team one is back with another simple sketch for you to try this week. This week we feature a sketch by Lisa Ann Bernard of Queen B Creations. See the link below to give PPA304 a try. We’d love to see what you come up with!
Just when you thought it was safe to put Swirly Bird and Swirly Scribbles on the shelf for a while, another card one pops up. The more I work with this bundle the more I think this is one of the most versatile sets I’ve seen in a long, long time. And to think I wasn’t sure about it at first. Those Stampin’ Up! designers know what they’re doing!
Using the bundle was a “no-brainer” for this sketch. There are a lot of sailboat cards using the set but all a little different. Love it!
Basics
- Finished Size: A2 (4-1/4 x 5-1/2)
- Supply list is shown at the bottom of this post.
The Setting Sun
- Using Daffodil Delight Classic Ink, stamp one of the swirls from Swirly Bird Stamp Set on a Whisper White card base.
- Die cut a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock with the largest swirl in the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Die Set. Adhere over the stamped “Sun” created in step 1.
Do the Wave!
- First, stamp the grungy spots with Marina Mist Classic Ink on Whisper White cardstock. Use the “stamp off” technique for varying intensity.
- Die-cut the waves from Pacific Point cardstock. Stamp the grungy spots with Marina Mist over the waves BEFORE adhering them to the piece created in step 1.
- Fussy cut around the wave piece and adhere the piece over the “setting sun” with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Sail Away
- Stamp the boat hull with Soft Suede Classic Ink on a piece of Whisper White, twice.
- Assemble the sail on a block. Stamp above one of the hulls with Peekaboo Peach Classic Ink.
- Fussy cut the sail-hull combination. Then fussy cut the single hull.
- Adhere a piece of Tear Tape to the back of the boat, where the mast would be.
- Attach a piece of Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine to the Tear Tape, wrapping around to the front to create the mast. Tie a small bow at the top of the mast. Secure the bow with a drop of Multipurpose Glue underneath it.
- Attach the boat over the wave.
Details
- Attach white sequins to the sky with Fine-Tip Glue Pen.
- Stamp “Happy Father’s Day” in Marina Mist.
Envelope Flap and Inside
- Stamp the grungy spots over the envelope flap with Marina Mist.
- Stamp a row of the grungy spots on the left, inside of the card.

I don’t have this set but have loved the thinlits alone. Now the card ideas are making me appreciate the stamps, too. Love your mast and the sequins in the sky. Great card.
Thank you Laurie! I think the PPA Challenge Card Instructions are here to stay! Your input and comments are so appreciated.
I love your adorable card and appreciate so much the directions for making it. I love that set and I’m going to make several of those cards. Please continue.
Thank you so much for your comment and input Cindy. I believe the PPA Challenge day instructions are here to stay.

What a cute card, Rae!
Thank you Patti!
So cute. I love this set and I like to see what other ideas people come up with. Please continue with the directions. Thanks.
Thank you Cyndie!
Fits the sketch! I love the swirls and scribbles sets. When I saw the set the first time I thought of the hot broiling sun! I liked reading about how you made the boat it was more involved than I thought but turned out soooo cute. Oh course the waves were a given also. I like the spots on the envelope. Cute father’s day card or whatever you want it to be. With the metallic asst of sequins you could use the white stars in a night time scene with the waves even. Great job as always!
Chris… I love the star idea. Thank you!
Rea: This is adorable and I thank you kindly for the directions. I bought the set and grabbed the wrong stamp for the plain sail and wondered what I was doing wrong. Love your sail boat. Please please continue!!!!!
Thank you Lynn!
