Patriot Birthday Card for PPA306
Welcome to summer and another fun sketch challenge from Pals Paper Arts. The summer solstice has past us with a beautiful strawberry moon. It’s now officially summer! Whoo hoo! Some of us are outside soaking in the sunshine while the rest of us are inside making fun creations like this Patriotic Birthday Card for PPA306.
Today’s fabulous, sketch is brought to you by Mary Fish of Stampin’ Pretty, a master of Clean and Simple design.
How do you celebrate an early July birthday? With lots of patriotic colors and sparkle, of course! This patriot birthday card started simple. With every star, sequin and sparkle, it grew into a complex tribute just like the beautiful fireworks on the 4th of July. Here’s how.
The Foundation:
- Create an A2 (4-1/4 x 5-1/2) card base by folding a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 piece of Whisper White cardstock in half.
- Layer a 4×5-1/4 piece of Floral Boutique DSP on top of a 4-1/8×5-3/8 oiece of Cherry Cobbler Glimmer Paper. Adhere to Card Base created in Step 1.
- Attach a Delicate White Doily to the center of the foundation piece.
Cutting the Detail:
- Use 2nd to smallest Star Framelit to cut three Silver Glimmer Paper stars.
- Use smallest Star Framelit to cut three stars from Floral Boutique DSP.
- Use smallest Star Frameit to cut two stars from Silver Glimmer Paper.
- Use a small star punch to cut three stars from Cherry Cobbler Glimmer Paper.
- Cut three narrow strips of Real Red cardstock. Curly slightly with Bone Folder.
Assembling the Detail Pieces:
- Create three stacked stars as follows.
- Attach small star from step 2 above to Silver Glimmer Paper Star with Stampin’ Dimensional.
- Attach punched star from step 4 above to center of 1A stars with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
- Top off with the smallest silver star from Metallic Enamel Shapes.
- Attach the three Real Red strips underneath one of the stars only with Multi purpose liquid glue.
- Attach all three stars with multipurpose Liquid Glue as shown in picture.
- Attach silver and white, star-shaped, Metallic Sequins with Fine-Tip Glue Pen. See photo for placement.
The Inside:
- Stamp “Happy Birthday” in Real Red Ink on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. Trim and clip banner ends.
- Attach two Silver Glimmer stars created above to inside panel with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
- Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue to attach Happy Birthday Banner between stars, overlapping if desired.

Thank you Susan. 🙂
A fabulous and festive take on the sketch, Rae! I love the glimmer paper stars. The red “tail” is the perfect little design element. Thanks for playing along with the Sketch Team 🙂
Thank you Ann.
Stellar! I love the doily with the glimmery stars! How fun. Love the polka dot background with the star sequins. But, that inside is the best! Love the stars on the little cowboy hat too. Great job on the sketch!
Thank you Chris. Glad you noticed the hat. 🙂
Pretty, colorful, detailed but not too busy….love it!
Thank you Ruth! I had troubles with this one. The doily made the difference.
