Bold Botanical for PPA316 Sketch Challenge
Happy Bold Botanical PPA316! AKA Paper Pumpkin August 2016 alternate card. Love it when one project does double duty, especially on a holiday weekend.
Welcome to another great challenge from The Pals Paper Arts. Fellow “Pal” and designer Patti MacLeith has created a super-fun sketch for us to play with. Design Team 1 had lots of fun creating projects with her sketch, and they’re sure you’ll have lots of fun, too! Come on, play along.
My project today makes use of the August 2016 Paper Pumpkin Kit, Bold Botanical. When the bright little box comes, every month, I get so excited. The contents come out and one set of projects are made according to the instructions. Then the fun begins. Alternate creations start popping up everywhere. Some paper crafters think the kits are just too simple. I look at each kit as a treasure chest of nuggets of inspiration. What can be done to spin the kit differently.
Original Kit Projects: Some Paper Pumpkin kits are easier to work with than others. When the ideas don’t flow, some of the kit elements stay on my work bench in plain view. Eventually, an idea will start to grow. This time, inspiration came in the form of PPA316. Remember, think outside the cute little box. Pull in some of the scraps littering your creative space.
Get Dirty. Don’t like the colors? Ink it up to change the personality of the projects.
Get Knotty. Try something different. Tie knots for texture. Knots add more interest at no extra cost.
Add-ons take the kit to another level. In this alternate idea, you’ll find:
- One Delicate White Doily
- One 2015-2017 In-Color Doily (Mint Macaron)
- Cajun Craze and Early Espresso Cardstock
- Wink of Stella Clear
- Wink of Stella Gold
You’ll also need a Sponge Dauber or Stamping Sponge to ink edges. You’ll even ink the little flowers to cover up the bright white edges. See the photo above.
Now it’s your turn. Open up that Bold Botanical box of Paper Pumpkin and create!
Don’t forget to play PPA316 while you’re at it.

This is such a pretty card, Rae. I love how you shared alternate ideas for the PP kits. The doily really does set everything off well and I love how you used the knots for the flower centers! Thanks for playing along this week at the PPA!
Thank you Dawn!
