Summer Vacation with Pals
Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop!
This month, the theme is Summer Vacation. We hope to inspire you with our creations today! You will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.
I love this theme! Even if you don’t have plans for one, or haven’t had one in a while, I bet you can recall a great vacation. When I was a young girl summers will filled with mini-vacations. They were mostly camping, fishing, water-skiing and the like. On occasion I would spend a summer vacation with grandparents.
One summer, I was able to travel the desert southwest with maternal grandparents. I was eight or nine years old. I’ll never forget stopping in Durango, Colorado where we caught the Silverton Steam Train on the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This train took us through the beautiful San Juan Mountains (in the Rockys) to the historic mining town of Silverton, Colorado. Now that I’m more seasoned, I’d love to take that trip again. You’ll find pictures of this historical train toward the end of my post. That brings me back to my project today.
When I saw the Greatest Adventure Cling Stamp Set, I fell in love. Childhood memories came came back like a locomotive roaring through a canyon.
I paired the stamp set with “Thoughtful Journey” Designer Series Paper (DSP) to create a scene.
The train is stamped in Blackberry Bliss then fussy cut and popped up on the white background. It’s stamped again in Basic Grey to cut away the steam for dimension.
The word Adventure (part of a phrase) was inked with Tuxedo Black by masking off the words I didn’t want, then stamped on Basic White. It is then matted with Boho Blue. A few Smokey Slate and Basic Grey pearls were placed and except for the inside, the card is finished.
Nuts & Bolts
Paper Cuts
- Card Base: Basic White Thick CS – 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, score at 4-1/4″ on long side.
- Focal Pieces: Basic White CS – 3″ x 4-1/2″ (3); plus a scrap for greeting
- Mats: Blackberry Bliss CS – 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ (1); 2-3/4″ x 4″ (1)
- Mat for “Adventure” – Small scrap of Boho Blue CS – 1/2″x 1-3/4″
- DSP: 4″ x 5-1/4″ (1)
Construction
- Fold Card Base on score line and burnish with a bone folder.
- Adhere the largest Blackberry Bliss Mat to the front of the Card Base.
- Adhere the DSP to the piece in Step 2.
- Center and adhere the small Blackberry Bliss Mat to the DSP in Step 3.
- Crop one of the Basic White Focal pieces with the second largest Radiating Stitches Die. Adhere to the Blackberry Bliss CS in Step 4.
- Stamp the train on a focal piece of Basic White, once with Blackberry Bliss and once with Smokey Slate.
- Fussy cut around the Blackberry Bliss train and then just the steam portions of the Smokey Slate train.
- Adhere to the focal piece with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Mask off the word Adventure from the greeting stamp. Stamp in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on a scrap of Basic White. Trim close to the word. Then, mat the word with Boho Blue CS. Adhere to the focal piece.
- Decorate with Smokey Slate and Basic Grey Pearls.
Masking Tip: I use Washi Tape to mask small areas. It’s a perfect way to use it up.
You can decorate the inside with another piece of DSP and a Basic White writing panel if you like. I used the largest Radiant Stitches Die to cut the inside DSP piece.

I’ve been thinking about this stamp set since the pre-order, mostly for my nephew, who is all about railfanning. You’ve convinced me that the stamp set is versatile. Your fussy cutting is amazing!
Thank you Sue. One of my customers suggested to make the bottom steam into snow. Wouldn’t that be cool?
Love this card, and especially the background you chose. It’s perfect!
