Creative Creases #94: Halloween Cauldron Cat
Happy Creative Creases Friday where “Anything Goes with a Fun Fold!” We hope you can join us in our challenge this week. You’ll find a link toward the bottom of my post that will take you to the main page where you’ll find more information and of course, inspiration.
Are you ready for Halloween? If you’re like me you have a few very special Trick-Or-Treaters visit. Make their treats a extra sweet this year with special packaging. Follow along to see how and find out why I call these cuties “Cauldron Cats.”
Grab your supplies and let’s get started. You’ll need
- Black cardstock
- Punches (Small Heart and Circles)
- Die Cutting Machine & Cauldron Die
- Take Your Pick Tool
- Trimmer & Scissors
- Strong Glue
- White Gel or Chalk Pen
Nuts & Bolts – Treat Box Cat
Paper Cuts
- Basic Black Cardstock
- Box – 3-1/2″ x 5″, score 1″ on all sides
- Tail – 1/2″ x 7″
- Head – 3-1/2″ x 8″
- Eyes – scraps
- White Cardstock
- Eyes – Scraps
- Petal Pink or other light pink
- Ears & Nose – scraps
Construction – Box
- Make cuts as shown in Figure 1 above.
- Fold and burnish all score lines.
- Apply strong glue on the tabs as show in Figure 2 above.
- Assembly box
Face & Tail
- Die cut two cauldrons from the Potions & Spells Die Set #164141
- Decorate one of the cauldrons as shown in Figure 5.
- Punches used: Hearts – Humble Home Punch #164093; Eyes – 1/2″ & 1/4″ circle punches
- Use white Gel or Chalk Pen to draw mouth and whiskers
- Attach cauldron to box with strong glue
- Round one end of the tail piece with Paper Snips
- Attach Tail to the inside of the box with strong glue.
- Curl the tail with your fingers
- Fill with candy and you’re done.
Tip: Use the Take Your Pick tool to pick up and place small elements.
Nuts & Bolts – Bobble Head Cat
Paper Cuts
- Basic Black Cardstock
- Body – 2″ x 11″; score at 2-3/4″ and 8-1/4″
- Bobble “Spring” – 1″ x 3″; score at 3/4″, 1-1/2″, 2-1/4″ and 2-3/4″
- Box – 3-1/2″ x 5″, score 1″ on all sides
- Tail – 1/2″ x 7″
- Head – 3-1/2″ x 4″
- Eyes – scraps
- White Cardstock
- Eyes – Scraps
- Petal Pink or other light pink
- Ears & Nose – scraps
Construction – Box
- Follow the box instructions for the Treat Box Cat above
Head/Face
- Die cut one cauldron from the Potions & Spells Die Set #164141
- Decorate one of the cauldrons as shown in Figure 5.
- Punches used: Hearts – Humble Home Punch #164093; Eyes – 1/2″ & 1/4″ circle punches
- Use white Gel or Chalk Pen to draw mouth and whiskers
Body & Assembly

- Fold and burnish the body piece as shown in Figure 6. Apply strong adhesive to one side.
- Adhere the two ends of the body piece to each other as shown in Figure 7. Let dry.
- Fold and burnish the “Bobble Spring” piece as shown in Figure 8.
- Attach to the head with strong adhesive as shown in Figure 9.
- Complete the assembly as follows:
- Attach the head assembly to the body. Refer to Figure 10 for placement.
- Round one end of the tail piece with Paper Snips
- Attach Tail to the body with strong glue.
- Curl the tail with your fingers
- Adhere box to the inside of the body with strong adhesive
- Fill with candy and you’re done.
Tip: Use the Take Your Pick tool to pick up and place small elements.
Make them extra special by placing the finished cat in a small cellophane bag and tie with a piece of ribbon.
