Fun Fold Blog Hop: Floating Gatefold
Welcome and Happy 2025 from all of us participating in the Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators Fun Folds Blog Hop. A new year and a new catalog (or two if you count the online January 2025 Scrapbooking Brochure.) Time to Sale-A-Brate too! At the end of this post you’ll find a list of our January 2025 hoppers. Don’t forget to check out their fun folds for January.
The fun fold featured here is called a “Floating Gatefold”. I don’t know about you but the name alone scared the “you know what” out of me. Of course I had to give it a go.
Looks like a normal gatefold with a belly band at first glance. Open it and, Voila! Aren’t those bees adorable? Look familiar? These images were introduced in a bundle with the Bee Builder Punch #162553) and Bee My Valentine Stamp Set (#162547) during the 2024 Spring Mini Catalog. I love they are still buzzing around 2025.

Floating Gatefold! Here’s a view from the top down so you can see the mechanism.
This is the part that scared me. I was sure it was an accident in the making. I was so wrong. Here’s a quick set of Nuts & Bolts to help you recreate your own floating gatefold. Are you wondering what happened to the hexagon die-cuts on the belly band? It need something. All the photos were taken, cropped and placed when I decided to make the change.
Aren’t those bees the cutest? No, stamping involved. They are part of the Cute As Can Bee DSP & Sticker Package (#166618)

Construction
- Adhere the front panels to to each other and the card base.
- Stamp the inside greeting in the center of the writing panel.
- Adhere the inside panels to each other and the card base.
- Create a little “box” from the mechanism strips. Apply adhesive on two sides. Position and glue.
- Stick the two smaller bees from your sticker sheet on Basic White Cardstock. Fussy cut leaving no halo. Adhere to the mechanism making sure the card will close without bending the bees. I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue to give me a little “wiggle room”.
- Create the belly band”
- Wrap the long cardstock strip around the card to create your score lines. The ends should overlap. Burnish and glue.
- Option: Adhere a border sticker on the strip before wrapping.
- Die Cut two hexagons, layer and adhere. Decorate;
- Slide the belly band created in step 6A onto the card
- Adhere the hexagon piece in place with strong adhesive.
- Wrap the long cardstock strip around the card to create your score lines. The ends should overlap. Burnish and glue.
- You’re done!
