Bombs Away Birthday!
Happy new week everyone! If you read my Friday post from last week (8/8/2014), you probably know that Saturday was my son’s birthday. We had a quiet family celebration with smiles and great food. Several years ago it became very clear that my son really, REALLY doesn’t like a big deal made of his birthday. Especially at those restaurants that insist you’ll have a good time if they embarrass the birthday guy or gal. It’s a long story but suffice it to say, we don’t do that anymore. When Bombs Away Birthday was introduced as one of Stampin’ Up!s early photopolymer (crystal clear) sets, I grabbed it before it was gone. Perfect for the his next birthday card.
This set has so many great phrases. There are already plans to use it on a milestone birthday for my brother. The biggest problem will be choosing which sentiment to use. HELP?!!! He’ll be 50 and your comments could really help with the decision.
Ok, back to the card at hand. The bomb set the tone for this project. It had to be grungy with an element of caution. The diagonal stripes in our Typeset Specialty DSP, accented with a little cautionary Real Red and Crushed Curry card stock was perfect.
The paper on its own were great but a little Gorgeous Grunge was needed. After all, have you ever seen a clean blasting site? At least according to Myth Busters, right?
Now on to the focal pieces. When creating a “dirty, grungy” project that last thing you want is pristine paper. In come the Naturals. Little specs of fiber run throughout to give this card stock an earthy appearance. Naturals White Card Stock was used here.
The bomb was heat embossed first with VersaMark and Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder, then fussy cut, removing the fuse. It was stamped again in Real Red Classic Ink and detailed with Basic Black and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Markers. Fussy cut the Real Red Bomb and “light” the fuse with Crystal Effects and Dazzlin’ Diamonds Glitter. Pop it all up with some Stampin’ Dimensionals and you’re all set!
If you love this under appreciated Bombs Away Birthday stamp set, and really want it for your own, you won’t find it in the catalog. Email me (rae@wildwestpaperarts.com) before it really is Bombs Away!

Great card Rae, I understand why you HAD to have that stamp set. For your brother, I’m at a toss up between the classic rock and willing to admit sentiments. How fun!
My son is in for Classic Rock but I kind of like willing to admit too. Decisions!
Thank you for your great comment Sue!
