Freedom to Play
Have you wondered where I’ve been? Well, my husband and I took some time for fun to end the summer. Part of it was spent with family at a reunion in Elko, Nevada and part was playing right here at home. It’s so nice to be involved with a business that allows the freedom to play when the opportunity arises. Thank you Stampin’ Up!
Some of my playtime has been spent with the Minions. Thanks to a special seven-year old, (seven today that is), I’ve fallen head-over-heels in love with these creatures and I haven’t even seen the movies. So guess who got a special birthday card today?
He was really easy to make. Punches, Paper Snips and your Stampin’ Trimmer are the tools for this one. The card folds at the top and was rounded by drawing a curve from the bottom of a water class then cutting with Paper Snips. The goggle was created by using the Modern Label Punch and circle punches with Silver Glimmer Paper and Window Sheets.
The Glimmer Paper and Window Sheet pieces that make the goggle eye-piece are held up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Since it was playtime, there was one more sweet surprise.
A matching cake. With the help of Pinterest and cake decorating blogs I found a simple cake to match the birthday card. Everything on this cake is edible, right down to the glittery rim around the goggle. During my search I found some amazing Minion cakes frosted with fondant. They looked amazingly real. Let’s just say that there are some really talented cake-decorators out there.
The PDF instructions to make your very own Minion is available right here. Visit my Project Tutorial page for more information.
I almost forgot! The card was a little oversize so I needed a custom envelope. Great time to play with the new Envelope Punch Board!
A beautiful matching envelope in Pacific Point wrapped up the little Minion and kept his hair from getting messed up.
Here’s a quick video to show you how easy this tool is to use.

I too found you through Mary Fish (I’m late to the game, what else is new?) I FREAKIN’ LOVE MINIONS!!!! I’m just curious as to what the black buttons are on his overalls? Are they buttons or did you punch black paper and put crystal effects on the paper? Your card is AWESOME!
Sherri,
First of all Thank you! The buttons are some retired black brads I had leftover. You could use buttons and even the new Glimmer Brads for bling to match his uni-goggle. Do you need the instructions?

Please send instructions! I am a 54 year old and went to see the latest movie with my college student – aged friend, and it was hilarious! You’ve got to see the movie! I don’t think the kids even got most of the jokes, as you have to have some life experience (age) to appreciate them. I even enjoyed the sound track to the movie!!!
