It’s Rodeo Time!
It’s Rodeo Time! Time to Kick Up Yer Heels and play with Pals Paper Arts for Sketch Challenge PPA209. This great sketch was put together by Nicole Watt. Thank you Nicole!
I’ve been cravin’ dust and dirt, livestock and latigo all year and it’s finally here. The week when the tough are still hangin’ around in hopes for that big pay day. The Reno Rodeo ends this Saturday and its been lively!
Which brings me to today’s card. Some hardwood, distressing and a little watercolor make this project reflect the grit of the rodeo. A few pearls placed in just the right spot give it a touch of class. Back in the day my style was denim, pearls and of course a good pair of boots.
The Bootiful Occasions Stamp Set is a favorite in the Wild West Tack room. As I said before, I just love a good pair of boots. Pair the cowboy boot with the Hardwood Background Stamp and you have a perfect match.
Here’s how I created this fun piece.
Create the Background:
- Stamp the Hardwood Background Stamp in Jet Black Stazon Ink on Crumb Cake card stock.
- Use a Sponge Dauber to apply Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink to the edges.
- Smudge Marina Mist Classic Ink at random with a Sponge Dauber
- Use the Stampin’ Distress Tool to “rough up” the edges.
Create the Focal Piece:
- Stamp western boot and sentiment from Bootiful Occasions twice on Watercolor Paper with Jet Black Stazon Ink. Fussy Cut one boot and set aside.
- Use Aqua Painters to apply Marina Mist Classic Ink to both pieces. The dryer the brush, the more intense the color will be. Let Dry. Repeat the process with Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink. Let dry.
- Use a Sponge Dauber to apply Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink to the edges of the focal background only
- Use the Stampin’ Distress Tool to “rough up” the edges of the focal background only.
- Attach Pearls Basic Jewels to stars.
- Attach fussy cut boot to focal piece with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Assemble a Black Candy Dot to a Candy Dot Brad Base. Attach to focal piece.
- Create a lasso with Linen Thread and tuck behind Black Candy Dot Brad assembly.
Assemble all pieces, decorate the inside and you’re done.
Now it’s your turn. Get yourself dirty and play with us at Pals Paper Arts this week. And don’t forget, it’s rodeo time!
Thank you so much for stopping by.
Have a Wildly Creative Day!

Thank you Kelly. It was really fun to make.
Could there be a better card for Wild West Paper Arts? You should use this as your logo! Love it!
Diane, that’s a great idea!
Love this card!! The “rope” is an awesome added touch.
Thanks a bunch Bobbi!
Great job! Love the Hardwood and boot together! And the hardwood shading is perfect!
Thanks a bunch Mike.
So cute Rae! The background is perfect for your card! And the boot adds such charm to your card. You and I were in the same page this week with Bootiful Occassiions!
Thank you Ginger. I just saw your card. So cute!
I LOOOOOOOOVE this! I wish I could recreate this look as well as you do! Not too heavy a hand on the distressing, and your boot coloring is perfect, as are both backgrounds! Yippee!!!
Thank you Leanne. Here’s my dirty little secret. When you think it’s done, go outside, put it in the dirt and stomp on it. 🙂 All kidding aside, for the watercoloring, make sure your aqua painter is really wet. If I were using a standard watercolor brush I would wet the paper. Hope that helps.
