Love Country Livin’ for PPA308
You’ve probably noticed it’s not Thursday, and we’re not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy! No matter, the current sketch challenge at Pals Paper Arts is still open. Yay! Here’s my Love Country Livin’ entry for PPA308.
Get out your S.I.P. – Stamps, Ink and Paper. It’s time for another Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge! We have an awesome sketch for PPA308 by the Fabulous Ann Schach of The Stampin’ Schach.
Sure had fun this weekend playing with the PPA308 Sketch Challenge and Country Livin’ Stamp Set, even if I did have to lay on my side to make this one work! When the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog from Stampin’Up! debuted, I knew this would take high priority on my “Must Have” list. Are you surprised?
This project is compiled of the old and new pieces. A while back I snapped an “in-progress” watercolor piece for Instagram and set it aside. I keep these pieces within reach on my work bench for cases just like this. A die cut here, a guitar there, and voila old meets new!
Here’s what I did to create this A2 sized card.
Skills Required: Basic plus Watercoloring and Blending
Colors Used:
The Background:
- Fold a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ of Basic Black cardstock in half to make an A2 size card base.
- Ink edges of 5-3/8″ x 4-3/8″ Cajun Craze cardstock with Early Espresso, distress the edges and adhere to card base.
- Emboss 5″ x 3-3/4″ Basic Black cardstock with Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Distress all edges. Adhere to card base.
Layering Love Piece:
- Use watercolor wash and blend technique to color 3″ x 3-1/2″ Watercolor Paper. Colors used: Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, Crushed Curry and Early Espresso, Let dry. Use Texture Effects to stamp distress patterns with Cherry Cobbler. Ink sides with Early Espresso, distress edges.
- Use Basic Black Archival Ink to Stamp “Live, Laugh, Love” from Layering Love Stamp set in the center of the piece.
- Use an oval of your choice from the Layering Ovals Framelits set to die-cut the piece you’ve just created.
- Position and adhere rectangle piece to card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Cut a 3-1/2″ length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon in half vertically (lengthwise). Adhere as shown. I used Fine-Tip Glue Pen.
- Position and adhere the oval as shown with Stampin’ Dimensionals and Glue Dots.
Guitar:
- With StaZon Jet Black, stamp the Guitar from Country Livin’ on piece of Watercolor Paper.
- Use an Aqua Painter or other brush to wet down the watercolor paper.
- Using the same tools as in step 2, watercolor the wood parts of guitar in the following order: Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze and Delightful Dijon. letting each layer dry slightly. You do want the colors to blend a little. Color between every other fret on the guitar neck and other guitar details as well s the side with Soft Suede. Fill in the hole with Early Espresso. Let everything dry completely.
- Using an Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker, go over any lines and details you want to pop.
- Adhere to card with Stampin’ Dimensionals and Glue Dots.
Finish it off:
- Set black, round and heart-shaped sequins with Fine-tip Glue Pen.
- Adhere 5″ x 3-3/4″ Very Vanilla cardstock inside for writing. For added character, mat the Very Vanilla with Cajun Craze, inking and distressing all sides of both layers.
