Ready for St. Patrick’s Day?  It’ll be here before you know it. Celebrate with lucky shamrocks and everything green.  It’s also time to play with my fellow Pals for this week’s sketch challenge. Join me for a shamrock evolution and PPA290.

Although I’m on the Color Team at Pals Paper Arts, I play along with the sketch team as often as possible.  Challenges really stretch the creativity muscle. That being said, this sketch had me a little puzzled.  I wasn’t sure if the vertical line was the opening or a seam.  My interpretation was an off-center gate fold.

Why is this a shamrock evolution? Because the final card you see above evolved through three iterations.  We’ll look at all three on this post.  You can decide for yourself, which one makes the cut.

One thing all three versions have in common are the little shamrocks inside and out.  The’re created with the little heart included in the Cups & Kettle Framelits Die Set.

Voila!  Every step came closer but it still wasn’t quite right until I swapped the patterned papers around.  In the first two rounds the darker color was just to heavy to be on top.

Shamrock Construction

Outside Shamrock:

1. Die cut three hearts from desired paper.
2. Remove heart from die taking care not to rip the remaining or “negative” image.
3. Adhere die cut to paper of your choice, using Fine Tip Glue Pen.  Let dry.
4. Snip around the glued die cut to create a shamrock petal.
5. Adhere to project and embellish as desired.

Inside Shamrock:

1. Snip around negative images saved in step 2 above.
2. Arrange “petals” and adhere to project using Fine Tip Glue Pen. Let dry.
3. Embellish as desired.

There’s one final evolutionary step that will take your shamrock up another notch. Stamp each “petal” before cutting with the coordinating stamp (A Nice Cuppa Item 140683).  The stamp set can be purchased separately or bundled (Bundle Item 141074) with the Framelits for a 15% savings.
