This week we Throw Way-Back to November, 2013 when the Pals featured a bi-weekly challenge; alternating between sketch and color challenges. These were opportunities to grow in our cardmaking journey.  As you can see I was well into the rustic, shabby style.

By now you’ve probably noticed that I love leaves.  Leaves in my yard, leaves on my cards, leaves, leaves, everywhere. By the time summer is over I’m anxiously awaiting the changing of colors.  Hello, lovely leaves.

PPA179 Color Challenge

The challenge colors over at Pals Paper Arts this week are fantastic for showing off my leafy obsession.  Crumb Cake, Crushed Curry and Rich Razzleberry make for a dramatic Autumn pallet.

Autumn leaves and rustic, recycled objects seem to compliment each other so well.  Good thing because I have lots of bits and pieces laying around, like the fringe that was created by pulling thread from the Burlap Ribbon by Stampin’ Up!  Good thing Burlap Ribbon is featured in the Weekly Deals this week (11/12 thru 11/18/13) because I’m almost out.  That would be a catastrophe! With the $2.00 savings, why not get two?  Sweet!

Since the burlap ribbon and Crumb Cake paper are so close to the same color I needed to add some subtle zing.  How’s that for an oxymoron?  A little stitching here, some Stampin’ Glitter there…..

Here’s what I did.

• Look closely, you’ll see a hint of Crushed Curry card sock hiding behind the burlap fringe.
• Zig-Zag stitching holds the Burlap selvage edge in place.  Amazing that I had matching thread!
• A light dusting of Gold Stampin’ Glitter was scattered across the leaves.  Using Spray Adhesive gives it a more natural appearance.
• Gorgeous Grunge speckles were stamped lightly with Rich Razzleberry and Crumb Cake over the Wood Grain embossing
• Leaves were accented with Rich Razzleberry. Two-step stamping with the Gently Falling stamp set made it easy!
• Crushed Curry chevrons cut from a sentiment in the Hello, Lovely stamp set accentuate the zig-zag stitching.

Scraps and left-over’s were used throughout.  The only piece that wasn’t in my scrap heap was the Crumb Cake card base.  Even the Sponge Dauber used to distress the edges is an old one.
