Aces & Eights
If it seems like we just had a Mojo Monday post, you’re right! After catching up this weekend, I decided to take a gander at this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch (MOJO292) and have a little fun. Who am I kidding, it’s all fun. At first glance I couldn’t get the image of “Aces & Eights”, aka the “Dead Man’s Hand”, out of my head. Yikes! Let’s not go there. Who knows where the phrase comes from?
The second idea was the use of a seed packet for the large rectangle. Great for Mother’s Day, but, since I’m trying to showcase items retiring this month, let’s stick with some of the outgoing Designer Series Paper (DSP) instead.
To get started. The retiring stamp set for this project is “Just Believe”. With all of the elements in this set, you can see what has made it super popular.
The patchwork and distressed designs in the “Tea for Two” DSP make this paper pack perfect for vintage projects. Although you won’t find this romantic paper on the retiring accessories list, it’s only available in the 2013 Spring Catalog until the end of May, 2013.Now that we’ve picked our main elements. It’s time to put it all together. Even though the paper itself has a bit of fading, Crumb Cake Classic Ink was used to distress the edges for a little extra dimension. Without it, the different elements and patterned layers would just blend together.
Next, the assembly. Piece of cake when you have a sketch to follow. Finally, adding those little embellishments that make your project one-of-a-kind. First, we’ll add a “Vintage Trinket”.
Let’s see what an “Itty Bitty Butterfly” and Pearls will do.
Or are we? See anything missing? Yes, the FLAGS! I typically stay away from cards that have many layers and embellishments. Don’t get me wrong, they’re absolutely beautiful and fun to make. Why? I can never seem to “finish” them. There’s always something else to add. And that, my friends, is how I came to add the little flags.
Before we wrap up here, I thought I’d update you on all the happenings around Wild West Paper Arts. First, Stampin’Up! has some fantastic promotions going on including Retiring Items. Check out the Retiring Items lists, for some great discounts.
Secondly, I’m almost finished with Phase II of Wild West Rewards, my Customer Loyalty Program. Here’s a hint, my customers will get first crack at purchasing from the Wild West Tack Room & Store. That’s where I send the retiring stamps and accessories I no longer need, as they become available. I’m nailing on the last few boards now so check back frequently. Other things are in the works too so if I miss a couple postings from time to time, you’ll know I’m in the back hammering away.

Thank you for stopping by for a little trivia fun.
Bette! You’re right, that’s the legend. Thanks for playing along.
When Wild Bill Hickok was shot in the back, he was holding an ace and an eight playing poker. That is why it is called “a dead man’s hand”! Or so my husband says.
